The membership at that time was limited to residents of the surrounding community and the Executive Committee had the right to deny membership to anyone they deemed not acceptable. Not until the 1950s were the gravel courts replaced by five hard surface courts. There was, in the early years, an annual yearbook which included poetry and advice to the membership, including: "The first and best victory is to conquer oneself". Each year the season was concluded with a formal dinner and dance, complete with five piece orchestra in one of the city's best hotels. Annual membership was set at................. $3.00.
